National Museum of Toys and Miniatures
Illustrating the scope of a museum collection to increase appeal and interest at a national level
challenge
The Toy and Miniature Museum of Kansas City, boasting a rich history spanning over 30 years, faced the challenge of rebranding to accurately portray the vastness of its collection, which comprised over 37,000 objects. Seeking to make a significant impact with its relaunch, the museum collaborated with Design Ranch to redefine its brand image and create a fresh identity reflecting its holdings’ depth and diversity.
approach
Design Ranch crafted a logo that cleverly intertwined the museum’s dual focus on toys and miniatures; we employed an uppercase “T” for toys and a lowercase “m” for miniatures, symbolizing the breadth of its offerings. Utilizing a vibrant and contrasting color palette, we heightened the brand’s visual impact while hero shots of unique artifacts showcased the museum’s impressive collection. We developed marketing materials to infuse personality into the brand, featuring imaginative conversations between toys and miniatures. The result was a compelling brand relaunch that captivated audiences, evidenced by a significant increase in visitor numbers within the museum’s first-month post-launch.
Following the new brand launch, The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures saw more visitors in their first month than they had the entire year before.
